If 6 was 9...

Wow... I think this is my 69th post. Although, I feel like I was trying to polish a turd with this one. I am really glad I started doing this blog thing because I went years and years without picking up a pencil and now by blogging, I kinda made a personal commitment to try and keep up with it. I don't know how many more times I am going to attempt the pen and ink thing tho. I feel I gave it an honest effort but it really isn't going all that well. So thanks to anyone who pays attention and if a six turned out to be a nine, I don't mind.

Chunk of Coal...

I have been wanting to try inking the old school way where you actually have to dip your pen or brush into the ink. I got hooked up with a bunch of different pen tips (thanks again Mikey) so decided to try it out. Well it has been since college since I have done any kind of ink pen stuff so I didnt know where to begin but I guess it was a good first effort. I only wished I would have at least sketched something out first because I just started inking lines and wasnt quite sure of what to do. I did this a week or two ago and just decided to post so I could watch my progression, if I decide to continue. I did some quick colors in Illustrator. It sort of puts me in mind of Don Martin the artist from MAD magazine or the Keep On Trucking guy.

Yesterday's News...

This is a poster I did at work for the Little League World Series. It is my first drawing that I colored that got printed on our newspaper press. I am glad it is done and printed though it feels like wasted time. But I did sneak myself in as the pilot of the plane.

Even If It's Wrong. . .

I am sure that everyone can remember certain firsts in their lives... When I was 8 or 9 years old I had three firsts in one night. My uncle had then just separated from my aunt and he picked me up for the night to play with my cousin Bingey at his new apartment. On the way there we stopped at a store and he bought me my first (of many) G.I. Joe action figures, Stalker the Ranger and I still have him to this day. So when we got back to his apartment me and my cousin played G.I. Joes and he had a ton of them and it was all new to me so it was a blast. A little later we ate some chocolate, and this was the first time I ever ate chocolate that wasn't brown. It was like green and red chocolate and man it was the best chocolate I ever ate even to this day. Then later that night, I remember turning on TV and this comedian was on and he was funny but then he did this bit on the seven words you cant say on TV. Now I grew up around my moms brother and heard him say every cuss word there is. But this was the first time that I ever found swearing humorous and funny. I remember laughing so hard that we woke up my uncle and he came out and made us turn it off but i heard enough to know that even though they may be inappropriate, swear words are actually funny. So thank you George Carlin, you are missed!

Happiness is a Warm Gun. . .

I am sure that everyone works with or has worked with someone who wouldn't surprise you by walking into work with a gun and start shooting hot lead. Scary, sad but true. And I am guilty of daydreaming. Are you?

Have A Drink On ME. . .

I have been trying to do more quick sketches here and there...well, usually I try to fit them in at work. I try not to spend more than 10 - 15 minutes but try to be in proportion. I started with one guy holding a cup and then tried to stick with that party theme. I then just pieced it together in photoshop.

Darling Nikki. . .

It occurred to me that I should probably post more layout and design stuff so people dont begin to think I only do sketches and cartoony stuff. Who knows, I could have future clients or employers looking at this stuff and wouldnt want anyone to get the wrong idea about what I do. So after this post I will try and put up more layout and design stuff cuz after all, that is what pays the bills.
